Why local-first screen recording matters

Cloud editors are convenient until privacy, latency, or offline work gets in the way. Here’s why Capptivo keeps your footage on device.

Most “AI video” tools want your recording in their cloud before you can trim a second of footage. That works until you’re on a bad connection, under an NDA, or simply don’t want raw product UI leaving the laptop.

The tradeoff nobody mentions

Upload-first workflows add:

  • Waiting on transfers before you can edit
  • Third-party retention policies you don’t control
  • Friction for private betas and internal tools

Local-first flips the default: capture, edit, and export on the same machine. Sharing becomes an explicit export step—not a prerequisite.

What “local-first” means in Capptivo

Capptivo does not upload your video for hosting or processing. Speech-to-text and editing run on device. When you’re done, you export a file wherever you want it to live.

That doesn’t mean you’re stuck offline forever—it means the network isn’t part of the critical path for making the video.

Who this is for

  • Teams shipping demos of unreleased products
  • Creators who batch-record without reliable wifi
  • Anyone who prefers open tools they can audit

If that sounds like you, Capptivo is built for that workflow—not as an afterthought bolted onto a SaaS upload form.
