Terms of Service

Capptivo is open-source software licensed under the MIT License. The full license text is in the LICENSE file in our public GitHub repository (https://github.com/SECHAK-AG/capptivo). The MIT License governs your rights to use, copy, modify, and distribute the software, provided you keep the copyright notice and license text with any substantial portion of it.

These Terms govern your use of our hosted website, browser extension distribution pages, and related online surfaces. They do not replace the MIT License for the software itself.

Capptivo helps you capture and edit screen recordings primarily on your own device. Typical features include a browser extension, a web-based editor that works with media stored locally in your browser, and a local recordings library. We may also operate thin online helpers (for example, opening an editor page or storing lightweight editor metadata). The product is designed so that video bytes generally stay on your machine rather than being uploaded to Capptivo for hosting or public sharing.

Features may change as the open-source project evolves. We do not currently require an account to use Capptivo.

Capptivo does not currently offer user accounts, subscriptions, or cloud libraries tied to a login. You are responsible for managing recordings and exports stored on your device (including browser storage). Clearing site data, switching browsers, or using another device may mean you lose access to local recordings.

You agree not to: (a) use the Service in violation of any law or third-party rights; (b) use Capptivo to record or distribute content that is illegal, hateful, harassing, defamatory, or malicious; (c) attempt to probe, scan, disrupt, or breach the security of our website or infrastructure; (d) overload or abuse our online endpoints; or (e) misrepresent Capptivo or use our branding in a confusing or deceptive way. We may block access to our website or endpoints for abuse.

You retain rights to the recordings and edits you create. Because Capptivo is local-first, your video files typically remain on your device. If you choose to send any data to our servers (for example, lightweight editor metadata needed to open a session), you grant us a limited right to process that data solely to operate those features.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the rights to record and use the materials you capture. Do not record confidential or personal information of others without proper authorization.

The Capptivo name, logo, and marketing site design are our brand assets. Open-source availability of the code under the MIT License does not, by itself, grant permission to use Capptivo trademarks in a way that implies official endorsement, except as allowed by applicable law, the MIT License, or our written permission.

The Service and software are provided “as is” and “as available.” Capptivo is an evolving open-source project. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation, and local storage can fail or be cleared. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Capptivo and its contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service or software. Our aggregate liability for any claim related to the Service is limited to fifty euros (€50). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.

We may update these Terms from time to time, especially as features or our hosting model change. We will post the new Terms on the Service and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of France, without regard to conflict of law rules, subject to any mandatory rights you have in your place of residence. If you are a consumer, you may benefit from mandatory rules of the country in which you live. The courts of France have jurisdiction, subject to those mandatory rules.
