Privacy Policy

Capptivo acts as a controller for personal data we process to operate the website and any online helpers we provide, under applicable data protection law (including, where applicable, the GDPR). For privacy questions, contact support@capptivo.com.

Screen and camera video captured with Capptivo are generally stored in your browser or on your device (for example, in IndexedDB), not uploaded to Capptivo for cloud hosting or public share pages. Editing and export typically happen on your machine. Clearing browser storage or using another device can delete or hide local recordings.

Website usage: standard server logs (for example, IP address, user agent, and pages requested) that help us keep the site secure and reliable.

Optional lightweight online data: if you open the web editor, we may store a recording identifier and editor-related metadata needed to load that page. This is not a substitute for local media storage.

Communications: if you email us or open a GitHub issue, we process the information you choose to send.

We do not currently collect account profiles, passwords, or OAuth identities, because Capptivo does not offer user accounts.

We process information to operate and secure the website, provide editor pages and related helpers, diagnose issues, respond to support or contribution requests, improve the project, and comply with law.

We rely on: (a) legitimate interests, to run a secure website and open-source project, balanced against your rights; (b) performance of a contract or pre-contractual steps, when you request a specific online feature; (c) consent, where we ask for it; and (d) legal obligation, where the law requires processing.

We may use infrastructure providers (for example, hosting) who process data on our instructions. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights and safety. Capptivo’s public GitHub repository is operated on GitHub’s platform; interactions there are also subject to GitHub’s privacy terms.

If personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we will use appropriate safeguards as required by law where we control that transfer.

Server logs and any lightweight online metadata are kept only as long as needed for security, operations, and legal requirements. Local recordings remain under your control on your device until you delete them or clear browser storage.

We take reasonable steps to protect our online surfaces. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Protect your device and be careful with any files you export.

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, rectify, delete, or restrict processing of personal data we hold, to object in certain cases, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Contact support@capptivo.com to exercise rights regarding data we control. For local browser data, use your browser or Capptivo’s in-product delete controls.

The Service is not directed at children under 16 (or a higher age where local law requires). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

Capptivo’s source code is available under the MIT License. If you self-host Capptivo, you are responsible for privacy and data protection on your instance, including any personal data processed there.

As Capptivo evolves (including feature changes or updates to our hosted Service), we may update this policy. We will post the new policy and update the “Last updated” date.
